CASIC Successfully Organized an International Workshop on Agroecology and Regenerative Agriculture

Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), represented by Cambodia Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification Consortium (CASIC) has successfully conducted an international workshop on TRANSITIONING TOWARDS AGROECOLOGY AND REGENERATIVEAGRICULTURE: A CONTRIBUTION TO FOOD SYSTEMS TRANSFORMATIONS (TARASA23) which was held in Siem Reap Province, Cambodia from 24th to 27th October 2023.

CASIC and Nurture Project sign MoA to boost CA/SI in Cambodia

On July 31st, 2023, the Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification Consortium (CASIC) and the Nurture Project, signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen their collaboration and cooperation in promoting Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification (CA/SI) in Cambodia. The signing ceremony took place at the CASIC office, located at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF).

Transforming Agriculture in Tboung Khmum with Cover Crop Implementation

Mr. You Tainghy, the deputy director of the provincial Department of Agriculture, forestry, and Fisheries in Tboung Khmum, has been actively promoting the implementation of cover crops in the region. His commitment to this technique stems from his knowledge of its benefits, including soil moisture retention, biomass generation, and the transformation of biomass into humus compost, which enhances soil fertility and crop production. In 2022, after Mr. You's promotion, three cassava farmers and two vegetable farmers became interested in cover crops and began implementing them. The results have been remarkable, with the technique showing promising outcomes.

Transforming Farming: Ten Tum's Success with Cover Crops and Increased Yield

Ten Tum, a farmer from Dambae District in Tboung Khmum Province, owns a 2-hectare cassava farm. Over the past2 years, he has been practicing the use of cover crops, specifically sun hemp, after receiving a recommendation from PDAFF (Tboung Khmum Provincial Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries). Ten Tum noticed that his farm had poor soil quality and decided to experiment with cover crops on his cassava field. To his delight, he observed that when the sun hemp was chopped and added to the field, it not only prevents soil erosion but also improved the soil conditions by turning its biomass to humus compost.

CASIC Invited Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to See the Progress of Agroecology in Cambodia

Kampong Cham, January 24th, 2023: Cambodia Conservation Agriculture and Sustainable Intensification Consortium (CASIC) successfully organized a field visit for the H.E. Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries to the Bos Khnor Conservation Agriculture Research for Development Centre (CARDEC) and the Cambodia Rubber Research Institute (CRRI) to showcase the relevance, progress and potential of agroecology and regenerative agriculture in Cambodia.
